THE LAST OF US SEASON TWO DIVIDES CRITICS AND AUDIENCES

The Last Of Us Season Two review embargo was lifted for certain critics on the 9th of April, 2025. It started off on Rotten Tomatoes as a solid 92% score, before increasing over the course of a week to a 96%, the same as the first season. It was clear the general consensuses was that the second season of the show was a strong follow up to the first season. However, the second season seems to have divided critics and audiences once again in the last of us community, with the score for audiences currently standing at a 55% after one episode.

Tomatometer shows 96% from 102 reviews, depicting a certified fresh logo. Popcornmeter shows 55% from 500+ ratings, symbolized by a tipped popcorn bucket icon.

HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF

It seems that history has repeated itself one again in the Last Of Us community. The second game was received highly by critics, while audiences found it to be divisive. That’s not to say some didn’t enjoy the game, but on Metacritic the game was undeniably review bombed, and it’s unclear whether or not the same is happening again with the Last Of Us Season two.

Only One episode of the second season has come out, and that does make it hard to justify the incredibly low review score as most haven’t seen past the first episode. Although the first episode was received fairly well by critics and audiences, it still didn’t live up to the excitement many were hoping it to. You can check out our review of the episode at the bottom of the page, but we understood that the episode could be hard to engage with for some people, and we acknowledged it was a slow start, however it makes you think about whether or not this low score is justified.

OUR VERDICT

Although the first episode was a bit of a disappointment for some, this outcome doesn’t really suprise anyone. It’s hard to say whether or not this is an act of review bombing, but we don’t feel the low score is justified after one episode of Television. However, there is time for the score to change and grow with time.
